한비야씨의 여행기 책을 읽고 많은 공감과 존경을 가지고 있었기 때문에 가급적 첫 학기에는 혼자 여행을 하려고 했습니다.
공자의 고향으로 유명한 취푸를 중국 친구의 도움으로 여행하고 소주와 상하이 여행을 계획했습니다.
학교 수업을 마치고 약 20시간이나 걸린 후, 때마침 더워지기 시작한 소주에 도착했습니다.
처음보는 중국집에서 밥을 먹고 유명한 정원과 아름다운 경치를 구경했습니다.
그런데 상하이로 이동한 그날 밤 난관에 부딪히고 말았습니다.
곡부에 갔을 때 학생증이 신분증 역할을 해서 상해를 입어도 학생증만 있으면 될 것 같아서 여권을 안 가지고 온 것입니다.
당시 상하이 등 대도시에서는 중국 베이징 올림픽 때문에 외국인의 검문이 심해질 때였습니다.
